Social Services

Social work is the professional activity of helping individuals enhance and restore their capacity to function. After illness, injury, or loss, this return to daily life frequently involves change, sometimes short-term, sometimes permanent.

The compassionate staff of the Social Services Department at Huggins Hospital is dedicated to being there for you when you need it. We provide a map and a compass to inform, comfort, and guide you and your family as you navigate changes in your life caused by illness, injury or loss. We listen to you, connect you with support resources, and understand and respect your goals.

The Social Services Department provides a wide range of services including:

  • counseling
  • discharge planning
  • identifying psycho-social needs
  • interdisciplinary collaboration

We also help with:

  • advance care planning
  • durable power of attorney for health care
  • living wills
  • guardianships
  • education
  • end-of-life needs
  • bereavement counseling

Anyone can ask for a consultation. Simply call the Social Services Department or if you are an inpatient or tell your primary care provider that you would like to speak with a social worker. Our staff members are on duty Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM, but you can leave a message anytime, day or night. Please be sure to leave your name and a call back number.
