YOUR HOSPITAL BILL

Your bill reflects all of the services ordered by your physician and received during your stay. Charges fall into two categories:

  1. A basic daily rate, which includes your room, meals, nursing care, housekeeping, etc.
  2. Charges for special services, which include items your physician orders for you such as x-rays or laboratory tests.

If you have certain tests or treatments while in the hospital, you may receive separate bills for services provided to you by your attending physicians, radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists, ER physicians, cardiologists and other specialists. These bills are for professional services rendered by these doctors in diagnosing and interpreting test results while you were a patient.

If you have questions about these bills, please call our Patient Business Services Department at: 603.569.7684.

Below are a few other organizations that may send you a bill after you receive care at Huggins Hospital. If you have questions about these bills, please use the phone number listed with the organization below:

HEALTH INSURANCE
At the time of registration, we will need a copy of your insurance identification card. As part of our standard process, you will be asked to assign benefits from the insurance company directly to the hospital.

Huggins Hospital will treat anyone regardless of their ability to pay or their insurance situation. Huggins Hospital participates in Medicare, some Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicaid, AARP, Anthem, Cigna, Harvard Pilgrim (excluding ElevateHealth), UHC and most private health insurance plans. Insurance coverage can vary depending on the carrier so we recommend patients familiarize themselves with their coverage and ask questions before treatment. When choosing a plan, make sure to check the details and make sure Huggins Hospital is enrolled and that your Huggins provider is listed as an “in-network” provider. If you are under-or-uninsured, please see above for information regarding our Financial Assistance program.

Insurance coverage can vary depending on the carrier so we recommend patients familiarize themselves with their coverage and ask questions before treatment. If you have questions regarding your Huggins Hospital bill, please call our Patient Business Services Department at: 603.569.7684.

If You Are a Member of an HMO or PPO

Insurance plans may have special requirements, such as a second surgical opinion or pre-certification for certain tests or procedures. It is a patient's responsibility to make sure the plan's requirements have been met. If a plan’s requirements are not followed, patients may be financially responsible for all or part of the services rendered in the hospital. Some physician specialists may not participate in certain healthcare plans and their services may not be covered.

IF YOU ARE COVERED BY MEDICARE OR MEDICAID

For patients covered by Medicare or Medicaid, please provide your Medicare or Medicaid card.

If you are a Medicare patient, you will be asked a series of questions regarding your status including other insurance you may have and your retirement. These questions are required by law and must be asked each time you visit us. If you are covered by Medicare, we will submit your claims to Medicare on your behalf. We are required by Medicare to provide only those services approved by Medicare as deemed medically necessary. In the event the service is not covered by Medicare, we may ask you to sign an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN). Additionally, we will bill you and/or your supplemental insurance carrier for services not covered by Medicare such as self-administered medications and routine health exams. However, if neither covers these services, you will be responsible for payment for these services.

IF YOU HAVE NO INSURANCE

If you do not have medical insurance, a member of our Financial Assistance Team can discuss financial arrangements with you. Please call 603.569.7684 to discuss options available to you.

  • The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) has options for people who either pay too much for health insurance or do not have health insurance coverage. Information on the Health Insurance Marketplace is available by:

HOSPITAL LIST OF CHARGES

Hospitals are now required to provide a comprehensive list of charges (gross charge, payor-specific min/max allowable and average allowable) for all services provided. The information provided is known as a chargemaster. The chargemaster is a comprehensive list of charges for each inpatient and outpatient service provided by a hospital. Huggins Hospital updates the chargemaster periodically and it is posted annually. Standard charges shown in the chargemaster do not necessarily reflect what a patient ultimately pays for services and therefore may not be a helpful tool to estimate out-of-pocket responsibility or to compare hospital costs. Please contact our PATH Specialists at 603.569.7547 for information about the cost of your care. This team can provide an estimate with the most up-to-date information specific to your situationa and insurance coverage.

Please Note: The charges listed are based on care without complications. Actual charges may be different for specific patients due to medical condition, length of time spent in surgery or recovery, necessary specific equipment, supplies or medication, complications requiring unanticipated procedures, or other treatment ordered by the physician.
