Thomas E. Varney, MD

Thomas Varney, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in total hip and knee replacements. He is specialty trained in using the Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery to limit soft tissue damage and provide patients with a personalized surgical experience based on their specific anatomy. Prior to joining Huggins Hospital, Dr. Varney cared for patients in Upstate New York. Dr. Varney also served as a Staff Surgeon and Department Head at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Guam as well as a Staff Surgeon at the Naval Health Clinic in Newport, Rhode Island.

Dr. Varney is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery with distinctions from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Varney earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed an internship and residency in Orthopedic Surgery at University of Massachusetts in Worcester.

When he is not at work, Dr. Varney enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
